So I tried a new design on Saturday that really turned out to be pretty cool. It's a big bag this time with the same "over the shoulder" idea as the hipsters, but the strap is really thick and the bag almost looks like an old style paperboy sack...but with much cooler fabric. The interior fabric folds over the outside nicely and there are some pockets on the inside.
I'll try and put up some pictures in the next day or so.
Until then, cheers!

Launching kgthreads.com

We're officially a "dot com" now!. If you found this blog through our new website, then you're having a bit of a "duh" reaction to this post.
If not, then quit reading this jibber jabber and get yourself to www.kgthreads.com right now! :)
A couple of new bags are up on the site. Here are some pics of the new ones. I'm particularly fond of the "kg hipster" (the greenish bag here).

Downsizing to get bigger

.jpg)
So the totebag thing is pretty decent. :) I've gotten some mixed feedback though. Most people love the size, the fabrics, and the pricing, while others have one thing or another to give me suggestions on. (which is a good thing when you're starting a new business!)
So on that note, I'm going to keep up that larger line of "kg" totes while starting a new line of a couple of different styles.
Jeff and I were out fabric shopping (our new favorite saturday morning activity). And, by the way ladies, how many of YOUR husbands would go fabric shopping with you? I think all the other girls in Fabric 101 thought he was gay or something :) While we were out, we saw an incredibly expensive fabric that got Jeff thinking about a bag design that might be more affordable and practical for high school girls. The fabric was cool, but we decided to use another fabric to try the new design idea and, if it works, we might go back and by a yard or so of the expensive stuff. It was $50 a yard!...at 50% off!
So while Jeff was thinking about the high school girls and what they might want, I was thinking about CLUTCHES! I bought some really cool satin fabric that is pretty plush and would make a great small clutch with some leopard print on the inside. It's an off-white color plush fabric, so it'll go with most coctail dresses I think.
As soon as I get Jeff's "Hippie" bag and the "Coctail Clutch" up and running, I'll post some pics. Until then, here are some of the totes I have.

Giving it a shot

Hey everyone!
So I thought I'd give sewing a shot to relieve some of the work day stress of "life in a cubical"!
So far it's mostly been handbags. Those started as a set of bridesmaids gifts at my sister's wedding. Since then, I've tried using the same pattern with some different fabrics and with some little changes here and there. Among friends and colleagues at work, the've been received fairly well and I've even made a little money!
I'm also currently working on my first quilt for a friend that has been fun and pretty satisfying at the same time.
My husband, Jeff, helped get me started with my new sewing machine last year, and this year, he put together a set of shelves for our room-over that is pretty cool for keeping things organized.
So here goes! Keep checking back in to this blog for pics of new items that I'm working on and my random thoughts on sewing!
